What is a Christian
Life Coach?

Let’s start with “What is a Life Coach?” A Life Coach is someone who sees your potential and encourages you, and keeps you accountable, as you put in the work to make the changes to be the person that you aspire to be. A coach should be gifted in the ability to take an objective look at circumstances, and have the understanding and clarity of vision to know what steps are going to be needed to get you from where you are to where you want to be.

Similar to a sports coach, in belief, and vision, and a plan to succeed; but the difference is, a Life Coach is driven to see you win for your success, and not for their own reputation as a coach.

A  “Christian Life Coach”, or a “Biblical Life Coach”, is a Life Coach whose worldview and foundation is based on the Scriptures and a Christian perspective of life.

When seeking answers to “What is my purpose?”, or “What is the right path?”, having a solid foundation of truth is critical!

The Difference Between Coaching and Counseling

The main difference between counseling and coaching is that counseling is focused on healing the past, and coaching is focused on moving forward with hope and excitement for all that the future holds.

Coaching helps you see and believe the potential to be your best self, by uncovering the lies and labels that have been defining you and holding you back from the freedom and transformation God intended, and still desires, for you.

Who Needs a Life Coach?

We all do! Even though this is “what I do”, I don’t have the objectivity required to see my own strengths and weaknesses, or mindset traps that I set for myself, with the same clarity that an outside observer would. We all have blind spots, and unless we invite someone to point them out to us, we will continue to walk into walls in those areas.

You may have friends or family who know you well enough to speak the truth to you, in love, if you ask for it, but they may be too close to the situation, or too biased, themselves, to be objective about it.

Even if they’re not, it is usually an uncomfortable role for them to play—which makes it awkward to ask. On top of that, asking them to keep you accountable for forward progress changes the dynamic of the relationship in ways that neither of you would probably want!

To be honest, it could, very possibly, be those who are in your inner circle of family and friends, who have helped create the labels and invisible ceilings that have been holding you back from the breakthrough and transformation you seek. Often the labels don’t originate with us, but they are the words that we hear so often from others that we eventually own them and let them define us. A coach can help you unpack that in a safe and supportive environment, and then help you to clearly see the pathway ahead, by shining the light on the stepping stones that will get you to your destination.

Coaching Options

When considering coaching, there are a few very important things to ask yourself, first.

1. Can you trust the coach you are considering enough to share your heart with them? A good coach will ask the hard questions, and challenge your thinking. But it should be clear to you that they have your success in mind, and will encourage you to be your best. You should feel that your coach is relatable, likable, empathetic, and non-judgmental.

2. Is the coach someone who is equipped to handle the area you need coaching in?

For example, if you are looking for help training for a marathon, you would want a Health Coach who specialized in training marathon runners. There are Life Coaches, Business Coaches, Leadership Coaches, Health Coaches, etc., and each of these usually will have their own areas of specialization. Find one that is a good fit for your area of need.

3. Make sure that you are ready to put in the work necessary to facilitate change.

Your coach will help you to come up with the plan, but progress depends on you being ready and willing to implement the plan, and grow. Usually, this level of readiness requires a great deal of frustration about your current situation, and an openness to believe in a greater vision for the future than what you are able to see for yourself.

If you think you would like me to coach you, here are some scenarios that are a good fit for my areas of specialty:

  • Those who are feeling discouraged, empty, and aimless and need an infusion of hope.
  • Those who are stuck in a pattern of negative self-talk and limiting beliefs and aren’t sure how to get out of that cycle.
  • Empty nesters & caregivers who are not sure who they are anymore, or if their hopes and dreams even matter.
  • People with personal challenges or relational conflicts that have gone on for far too long without improvement.
  • Those who are re-evaluating and realizing they are not where they had hoped to be at this point in their life.
  • Those who feel they have “let God down”, or done something too big to forgive.

If you see yourself in any of the above scenarios, I would love to invite you to schedule a free 30 minute introductory call. If, after the call, you would like to continue to pursue coaching with me, there are a few options available.
